As financial services professionals entrusted with sensitive financial information, we respect the privacy of our customers and are committed to treating customer information responsibly. Our Privacy Policy serves as the standard for all our employees regarding the collection, use, retention, and security of individual customer information.

 

Categories of Information We Collect

 

First South Bancorp companies collect nonpublic personal information (information not available from public sources) about our customers from the following sources:

 

• Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, such as: your name, address, social security number, assets, and income;
• Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others, such as: your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions, and credit card usage;
• Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency, such as: your creditworthiness and credit history.

 

Categories of Information We Disclose

 

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers or former customers to parties outside our affiliated companies unless:

 

• You request or authorize it;
• The information is provided to help complete a transaction initiated by you;
• The information is provided to a reputable credit bureau or similar information reporting agency; or
• The disclosure otherwise is permitted or required by law.

 

How to Limit Affiliate Sharing

 

Other than the four instances listed above, the only other potential sharing of information would occur if you are presently a customer of one of our companies, and you have applied for a credit or investment product with another company in our family. Although this sharing of information would be for the purpose of saving you time, trouble, and the burden of providing information you had previously supplied, you have a right to prevent this sharing. This is called the right to “opt-out.” If you wish to “opt-out” of affiliate sharing, you may call toll-free 1-877-451-0759 and leave your name, address, and telephone number. We will observe your wishes within a reasonable time.

 

 

How to Limit Marketing

 

You may limit our affiliates from marketing their products or services to you based on information that we share with them, such as your income, your account history with us, and certain information from your credit report. Your decision to limit marketing offers from our affiliates will apply for 5 years. Once that period expires, you will be allowed to extend your decision. This limitation does not apply in certain circumstances, such as if you currently do business with one of our affiliates or if you ask to receive information or offers from them. To limit marketing offers from our affiliates, you may call toll-free 1-877-451-0759 and leave your name, address, telephone number, and the following message: “I do not want your affiliates to market their products or services to me based on information that you share with them.”

 

 

If an opt-out is received from an owner of a joint account, we will treat it as applying to all owners of the account.

 

The First South Bancorp family of affiliates currently includes First South Bank and First South Financial Services.

 

Confidentiality and Security

 

We safeguard information according to established security standards and procedures, and we continually assess new technology for protecting information. Our employees are trained to understand and comply with these information principles.

 

Employee access to personally identifiable customer information is limited to those with a business reason to know such information. Employees are educated on the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of customer information and on these privacy principles. Because of the importance of these issues, all employees of First South Bancorp companies are responsible for maintaining this confidentiality, and employees who violate these privacy policies will be subject to disciplinary measures.
